Concerned with the spiritual development of his churchgoers and economic development of the city, he has served the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, as president of the South Texas Regional Convention, and the Independent Missionary Baptist General Associationof Texas as secondvice moderator. He is general secretary of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America. Dr. Miller was honored in Faith Magazine in 2017 and won the Christian Leadership Award for Outstanding Pastor. He has received several U.S. Congressional and Senatorial honors. His favorite Bible scripture is Joshua 24:15: “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Leveraging his aspirations to bridge the gap between Christianity and law enforcement, Dr. Max A. Miller Jr. emphasizes that there are some religious individuals whose concerns were not addressed by police officers, who are meant to offer safety and protection. Utilizing his relationship with religion and law enforcement, he sought to become a liaison and create strong dynamics between his community and those meant to serve that community. Since 2020, he has served on the Health Equity Response Task Force with Houston Police Reform. Since 2008, he has been the pastor of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Miller was a junior pastor at Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church and a manager with the U.S. Postal Service. Upon his introduction to the ministry, in 1996, he earned a BTh from Theodicious Theological Institute. He received a BS from the College of Biblical Studies in 2011, MTh from Sacramento Theological and Bible College in 2013, and Doctor of Religious Education from North Bay Theological Seminary and Bible College in 2014.
