234 Krishna C. Mukherjee has been providing software architecture and engineering expertise to industries worldwide for over 35 years. In 1988, he began with Microsoft at Redmond, Washington. Functioning as Chief Software Architect and Engineer, he architected and designed Microsoft’s main products, including Office, Windows and Visual Studio. He led R&D of Office on Microsoft’s and Apple’s operating systems, bringing Microsoft to the forefront of innovation in cloud computing and AI. Mr. Mukherjee introduced and led the development of AI technology at Microsoft. He built the proofing tools and developed smart features such as AutoCorrect, AutoFormat, Office Assistant and IntelliSense. Subsequently, Mr. Mukherjee created AI architectures and directed cross-functional teams to developWindows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Extensible Application Markup Language and Blend. In 2006, Microsoft released WPF as part of Windows and, in the following year, it released Blend for Visual Studio. During the late 1990s and 2000s, Mr. Mukherjee successfully built the Software as a Service (SaaS) businessmodel. He invented the groundbreaking AI system called Intelligent Filing Manager and directed the development of award-winning SaaS applications for Wolters Kluwer. He utilized Microsoft technologies to build these mission-critical applications. In 2010, Microsoft launched the cloud-computing service Azure, and it launched Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365). Microsoft also introduced deep learning technology into its speech-recognition products. Mr. Mukherjee created the Bloomberg Valuation Service (BVAL). BVAL provides rigorous, transparent and defensible valuations for millions of financial instruments across multiple asset classes. Bloomberg L.P. launched BVAL in 2008. In 2012, he designed and built the AutoPay feature that is used today across industries. He recently created interactive voice response and chatbot systems that use natural language processing and machine learning to deliver outstanding customer experience. Mr. Mukherjee is a distinguished alumnus of the Indian Institutes of Technology at Kharagpur and Kanpur. He is a member of ACM and IEEE. KRISHNA C.
