In the early 1980s, Mr. Towner contributed civically to Mensa International, where he was the local secretary of the San Francisco chapter for two years. Still maintaining membership with Mensa, he is also affiliated with the Association of Computing Machinery and the Society of Technical Communication. He attributes his profound success to his ability to accept new challenges as they arise, as well as honesty and his diligent work ethic. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Towner received two Awards of Merit from the Society of Technical Communication in 1985 and 1988. He has also been profiled in three editions of Who’s Who in the West and was featured in The Wall Street Journal in 2021. Always possessing a fascination with technology, particular computer systems, George Towner grew up during the emergence of the computer age and, later, artificial intelligence. Attending the University of California, he earned a BA and anMA in 1955 and 1956, respectively, prior to embarking on his career. From 1958 to 1960, he served as the assistant director for the Kaiser Foundation prior to becoming a research engineer for Advanced Instrument Corp. from 1960 to 1961. From 1962 to 1967, Mr. Towner excelled as president of Berkeley Instruments and, from1968 to 1978, was chairman of the board and a consultant of Towner Systems Corp. A former editor for The Ecphorizer for five years, Mr. Towner’s final role before retirement was as a senior writer for the prestigious Apple, Inc., from 1987 to 2018. In his retirement, Mr. Towner has authored several books, most notably “Thinking Like a Computer” in 2020, which is available onAmazon. com and in Barnes & Noble stores.
