At the inception of his career in 1980, he spent weekends as a medical technologist and nuclear medical technologist at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital. He was also a customer support manager for Medtronic/Medical Data Systems. Mr. Foster earned a BS in physical education and English from Bradley University in 1969. Thereafter, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator and advanced to the rank of captain. During his service, which included trips to Thailand during the Vietnam War, he accumulated over 2,000 hours flight time, which earned him two Air Medals. After being honorably discharged, he attended Eastern Michigan University, where he earned an MS in biology in 1979. He subsequently trained at the University of Michigan to be a nuclear medical technologist, after which he received a certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In 1996, he earned a paralegal certificate from Harper College, then additional 65 credit hours in computer science from Harper and Northern Illinois University. Mr. Foster was a notary public in Cook County, Illinois, and a tour guide and planetarium demonstrator for the University of Michigan Exhibit Museum. He authored “What Is… Answers to Some Perplexing Questions in Science and Life” in 2019, his magnum opus. Within, he discusses consciousness, the origin of life and time. Looking forward, he intends to write about inalienable human rights and fate. Robert L. Foster joined the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System in Chicago in 2004, where he served as a PACS administrator until 2012.
