Interested in the prospect of working in the field of sciences and technology, Mr. Mitchell took on the opportunity and, thus, delved into the field of cytogenetics. For more than 25 years, he has excelled as a technologist in cytogenetics for the Laboratory Corporation of America in Nashville, Tennessee. While embarking upon his professional path, Mr. Mitchell pursued a formal education at the Nashville State Technical Institute, where he received an associate degree in medical technology. Subsequently, he matriculated in Tennessee State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1981. He is licensed through the Tennessee Department of Health and Development, and has since drawn upon his nearly 30 years of expertise to apply his knowledge of cytogenetics to his esteemed position. He has also served as a medical technologist generalist in his earlier years. Mr. Mitchell is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Civically involved as well, he has maintained affiliation with the Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church in his spare time. He attributes his success to his enjoyment of his profession, as well as the collaboration of his team members and other colleagues with whom he works. He is driven by the motto, “Love what you are doing and do what you love.” Looking toward the future, Mr. Mitchell intends to ease into a well-deserved retirement and spend more quality time with his family. Married to his wife Sandra for many years, he has two stepchildren, two biological children and one adopted child. He is also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren.
