Recently in January 2021, he was elected to his fourth term as tribal secretary of the Yocha Dehe Wintun National, having also served on their Tribal Council since 2009. Working on behalf of Yocha Dehe for more than 17 years, Mr. Kinter has been the chairman of the Fire Committee and the tribe’s Property, Farm and Ranch Committee. Likewise, he has been secretary of the Doyuti T’uhkama Board, as well as a past vice chairman of the Health and Wellness Committee and former member of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy Board of Trustees and Young Adult Assistance Program. Since 2009, Mr. Kinter has been a fire commission chairman for the Yocha Dehe Fire Department, for whom he helped receive international accreditation as the only tribal fire department in the nation. Prior to his current endeavors, Mr. Kinter ran a screen-printing, embroidery and advertising business titled Executive One, Inc., from 2007 to 2019. For four years, he also taught a Patwin history course at the Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy, driven by his pursuit for higher education and to enlighten the future generations. From2012 to 2018, he further served as Yocha Dehe’s tribal historic preservation officer, and is active in several organizations that encourage young individuals to get involved in their local communities through raising their voices and becoming thought leaders. Recently engaged to his fiancé Vanessa Rose, Mr. Kinter has three children: James, Jade and Robert. Looking toward the future, he intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career while giving back to his community in myriad capacities as part of the Yocha Dehe tribe. Since 2019, James Thomas Kinter has excelled as the owner of The Ravine on Sixteen, a family restaurant that provides authentic, high-quality American food while also giving back to the local community and economy of Brooks, California.
