FLORENCE M. MBANDOWAH After working as a teacher, Dr. Florence M. Mbandowah sought to delve into health care. Witnessing a family member struggle with Alzheimer’s disease served as a driving force in her pursuit of educating others about the disease. She received a diploma in nursing in 2008, and went on to serve as a nursing administrator and educator at the Hospice of the Chesapeake from 2009 to 2015. During this time, Dr. Mbandowah received a BS in sociology and social work from Bowie State University and an MS in community and public health administration from Trinity College. Shortly thereafter, she was a nursing supervisor at Providence Hospital/Carroll Manor from 2015 to 2018 while also attaining a BSN from Marie-Bernarde College. In 2020, she obtained a PhD in public health epidemiology from Walden University. Since 2005, Dr. Mbandowah has excelled as a public health nurse for the Children’s Hospital of Maryland. Holding certifications in hospice and palliative care and CPR/first aid, she has been a public health epidemiologist for Prince George’s County Department of Health since 2020 and an adjunct professor at the University of the District of Columbia since 2017. When she was young, Adaibaa Nchegem Mpi witnessed her brother undergo dialysis for sickle cell anemia. Discovering her curiosity of the medical sciences, she attended the State University of New York at Cortland, receiving a BS in health science in 1999. Shortly thereafter, she matriculated in Nassau Community College, where she completed the Accelerated Nursing Program and earned an AAS in 2005. First serving as a dialysis nurse in the Nephrology Department at Northwell Health from 2006 to 2012, she then continued as a registered nurse and case manager for EmblemHealth for the following four years. From there, she was a registered nurse case manager for Complex Care Solution and a case management nurse for HealthCare Partners prior to excelling in her current role as a registered nurse of clinical documentation and improvement for the Montefiore Medical Center. Attributing her success to her faith in God, Ms. Mpi is noteworthy for working directly with patients diagnosed with coronavirus during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has become a pillar in her local community, inspiring others to enter the medical field themselves. Looking toward the future, she intends to establish a community center for teenagers.
