Her doctoral thesis discussing the substantive scope of international tax treaties, titled “Taxes Covered: A Study of Article 2 of the OECD Model Tax Conventions,” was later published as a book in 2011. While serving the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Dr. Brandstetter was selected as a Hauser Global Scholar by the New York University (NYU) School of Law in 2007. Dr. Brandstetter relocated to the United States, where she earned an LLM in international taxation from the NYU School of Law in 2008. While there, she was introduced to Randy Schwartzman, Tax Partner at BDO USA, who offered her an internship in the field. First serving as a tax intern, she progressed in her career in core tax services and transaction advisory services between 2008 and 2018, excelling as a national tax office manager in 2019 before leaving the company. Since 2019, she has served as a federal tax editor for Thomson Reuters. Dr. Brandstetter was admitted to the State Bar of New York in 2010 and is also a registered notary public. Maintaining affiliation with the American Bar Association and the tax section of the New York State Bar Association, she attributes her achievements to mentors such as Randy Schwartzman of BDO USA and Catherine Murray of Thomson Reuters, noting her gratitude for their tutelage and support. Her husband Jaan, son Arno, and strong family support have been the bedrock of her success. Dr. Brandstetter is dedicated to mentoring fellow tax professionals, including foreign nationals whose talents in the field of taxation brought them to the United Sates. She intends to continue serving Thomson Reuters and escalate to the rank of a veteran editor.
