Notably, Mr. Bahns holds five patents in optical disk technology and medical sterilization and has co-authored a number of papers, including a 2017 paper regarding the ultraviolet protection of recycled polyethylene terephthalate. To remain abreast of developments in the field, Mr. Bahns is affiliated with the Optical Society of America and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy. While working on his engineering degrees at the University of Iowa, Ted L. Bahns was a research assistant at the Iowa Laser Facility. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1989, he continued his work and study at the university and received a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and joined 3M in 1992 as a senior product development engineer. After the 3M spinoff (known as Imation) in 1996, Mr. Bahns continued on as senior optical physicist supporting manufacturing, product development and research in optical disc mastering (also known as photolithography). After his departure from Imation in 2007, he started his own company, White Bear Photonics, LLC.
