216 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY Dr. Barbara VanRenterghem received a PhD in pharmacology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1994 before completing a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1998. Noting that pharmacology is a multidisciplinary field, she expanded her horizons into the publishing arena and joined Eaton Publishing/T&F Informa in 1999, where she was a scientific editor for BioTechniques, acquisitions editor for BioTechniques Press, and the chief editor of Preclinica until 2005. From 2006 until 2008, she served Vicon Publishing as chief editor of Controlled Environments Magazine and science editor of Lab Manager Magazine prior to commencing her current role as editorial director of Food Safety Magazine. Dr. VanRenterghem’s background in publishing has allowed her to translate her knowledge of science into relatable and relevant content for the food industry. She attributes her success to an ability to balance attention to detail with an understanding of the “big picture,” as well as a strong work ethic. She is a member of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and the Council of Science Editors.
