In 1983, he was awarded an honorary DD from Central College. He was ordained as a minister through the Reform Church of America in 1953. A noteworthy author as well, Rev. Dr. Kalkwarf penned the autobiography “Whatever Happened to the Boy with the Blue Racer” in 2020, as well as such texts as “Daily Devotions,” “Exploring the Libraries of the U.S. Presidents,” “History of the First Reformed Church of Philadelphia,” “God Loves His World, Books I and II,” “Maundy Thursday Drama” and “Dear Craig.” He has further contributed articles to religious journals. Rev. Dr. Kalkwarf is a past president of the Glenside chapter of Rotary International and was president of the Particular Synod of New Jersey from 1969 to 1970 and again from 1970 to 1971. Looking forward, he intends to publish an additional book. Supported by over six decades of experience in ministerial services, Rev. Dr. Leonard V. Kalkwarf currently excels as a pastoral associate for The Village Church in Springfield, Virginia. At the inception of his career in 1953, he was an associate pastor at the Bellevue Reform Church in Schenectady, New York, for two years before serving in the same capacity for the Levittown Community Church in New York from 1955 to 1957. Escalating to the rank of pastor at the Reform Church of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, he served the church until 1991 when he was recognized as an emeritus pastor. During this time, he was a chaplain with the Civil Air Patrol and spent time as a pastor with the National Evangelical Church in Kuwait. Additionally, he excelled as a pastoral assistant for the Presbyterian Church in Abington, Pennsylvania, from 1998 to 2004. To prepare for his laudable career, Rev. Dr. Kalkwarf obtained a BA from Central College in 1950, followed by a BDiv from the New Brunswick Seminary in 1953, who bestowed upon him the 1784 Legacy Alumni Award.
