38 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT During his collegiate studies, Andrew January Grundy III developed a deep interest in journalism. Likewise, he participated in the creation of a newspaper, where he learned how to write for professional publications with a general audience. A renowned journalist and activist in Lebanon, Kentucky, in the present age, he is especially proud of a letter he wrote to his local county officials regarding industrial manufacturing in the area, which resulted in a plethora of jobs for the county’s civilians. Additionally, he has been grateful for the opportunity to be the driving force behind “Global Goals,” a piece he authored in 2014 regarding the issues of poverty. Impressively, the United Nations leveraged his work and created the 17 Global Goals that many world leaders agreed upon in 2015, which later became known as “sustainable development goals” (SDGs). To attest to his success, Mr. Grundy received the Best Writer Award from Lebanon Enterprise. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue providing his skills to journalism and activism until he enters a well-deserved retirement. The author of multiple books, he also plans to write more. JOURNALIST, ACTIVIST Lebanon, KY Although an avid reader from a young age, Sarah Ellen Hawkes initially desired to pursue art. Upon attending Bowling Green State University, she discovered her love for library science and attained a BEd, with focuses on library science and fine art, in 1974. Shortly thereafter, she received an MLS from the University of South Florida in 1979. Ms. Hawkes’ first professional role was with the Glenside Public Library District, where she served as an adult services librarian from 1983 to 1984. From there, she joined Arkansas State Library, where she has been the manager of network services since 1985. Ms. Hawkes has penned numerous books, such as “A Reluctant Suitor,” “Marriage Gamble,” “The Bedeviled Baron,” “Lady Vengeance” and “Summer’s Folly,” among others. She is a former intellectual freedom chair of the Arkansas Library Association and a member of the Authors Guild. In 2015, she earned the Technical Leader of the Year Award from the Arkansas Association of Instructional Media. She considers a highlight of her career to be receiving the Gates Grant from the Melinda & Bill Gates Foundation for helping fund internet and computer access in several libraries.
