Carr joined Kingston Hill Academy in Saunderstown, Rhode Island, in 2006, where she first served as a classroom teacher. Maintaining the position until 2018, she concurrently excelled as a lead teacher and assistant building administrator between 2007 and 2018 before becoming the superintendent and head of school in 2018, where she remains today. During this time, Ms. Carr also was a cooperating teacher at the University of Rhode Island from 2014 to 2018, and a Title I summer school teacher from 2008 to 2011 and again in 2014 and 2017. Earlier, she served Literacy Volunteers of Rhode Island, Inc., as training and education coordinator from 2002 to 2006 and an interim executive director from 2004 to 2005. Ms. Carr draws upon a Bachelor of Science and an MEd in educational leadership from Rhode Island College, which she attained in 1994 and 2015, respectively. Holding numerous certifications in the field of education, she has been certified as a teacher of elementary grades one through six by the Rhode Island Department of Education since 1994. She has also held certificates in data use professional development and as a basic literacy trainer, superintendent of schools, and building level administrator, among others. Notably, she is a national board-certified middle childhood generalist. Ms. Carr co-authored “Rhode Island Health Literacy Curriculum for Adult Education” and serves as the treasurer of the Rhode Island League of Charter Schools. Maintaining affiliation with the Rhode Island Association of School Principals, she sat on the education committee of the Holocaust Education and Resource Center of Rhode Island and the steering committees of the New England Common Assessment Program and the Rhode Island Health Literacy Project. As a testament to her success, Kingston Hill Academy, under her direction, received the 2020 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award from the U.S. Department of Education. Ms. Carr has also been given the 2020 Educator Leader Award from the Rhode Island Department of Education. Finally, she was named a 2015 Rhode Island District Teacher of the Year. ALISON J.
