67 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Growing up learning English as a second language, Gloria G. Salinas harbored an interest in reliable communication and breaking language barriers, particularly within the educational system. In 1982, she received a Bachelor of Science in education from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and also earned a specialization in language training. Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree, she began serving as a middle school teacher in special education, Spanish, Latin and language training at the McKenzie Middle School, where she remained until 2011. Since 2012, she has continued her teaching efforts as a substitute teacher for the Lubbock Independent School District, where she teaches grades pre-K, kindergarten, and first through 12th grades. In conjunction with her teaching appointments, Ms. Salinas served as a desk clerk and monitor for her local chapter of The Salvation Army between 2012 and 2019. Likewise, she has volunteered with the Baby Closet for the Highland Baptist Church and is an independent senior associate for LegalShield. In addition, she has authored numerous written works throughout her career, such as several poems that were published in the book “Famous Poets of the Heartland” in 2000. She also co-authored a study skills manual in 1999. To remain abreast of developments in her industry, Ms. Salinas has maintained membership with the United American Mexican Students, the Association for Spanish and Portuguese Students, and Sigma Delta Phi. As a testament to her resounding success in the field of education, she was honored as the Best Latin Teacher for the City of Lubbock in 2001 and earned the Teacher of the Month Award in April of 2004. Additionally, she received the Hispana of the Year Award in Education from the Hispanic Women’s Association in 2008. During her previous marriage with Reverend Guadalupe Salinas Sr., Ms. Salinas served as a pastor at the New Creation Baptist Church in Abernathy, Texas, which is recognized as a bilingual Southern Baptist Church.
