72 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Dr. David Francis Alexick is an educator of fine arts, art history and art education. He graduated from the Richmond Professional Institute, a former extension of the College of William and Mary until 1962. In 1964, it merged with the Medical College of Virginia to become Virginia Commonwealth University. He began working on his master’s degree, finishing in 1966 with an MFA. He served the York College of Pennsylvania for two years, after which he entered the doctoral program in art education at Pennsylvania State University. He received his PhD in 1976. He taught at Longwood College before being employed by Christopher Newport University in 1980. From 1980 until attaining emeritus status in 2007, Dr. Alexick served Christopher Newport University as an assistant professor, director of art, associate professor and full professor. He was a founder and donor of the Alexick Family Scholarship for Art Students. A prolific artist, he has exhibited his work in one-man and group shows at The Robinson House at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, from whom he received a Certificate of Distinction. Since 1987, he has maintained a private studio, Ardenwood Studios, at his home in Williamsburg, Virginia. PROFESSOR EMERITUS Christopher Newport University Newport News, VA From a young age, Sandra Rae Badger enjoyed educating others, particularly in athleticism. She earned a BS in physical education from Colorado State University, Pueblo and MA in arts and humanities from Colorado College. She served Mitchell High School and Doherty High School for over 30 years as a women’s swimming and diving coach and instructor of physical education and health, and also served Doherty High School as head of the Department of Health Education. Beginning in 1996, she was an assistant coach of men’s and women’s cross-country, indoor, and outdoor track and field at the University of Colorado, from which she has since retired. During her educational ventures, Ms. Badger has also excelled as the director of the Colorado Health, Fitness and Coaching Conference and a consultant for Associates in Recovery Therapy. She worked with the U.S. Olympic committee and American Red Cross to develop The First Aid for Coaches program and read textbooks for book companies. She was nominated for Readers’ Digest 1998-1999 Teacher of the Year and earned the 1988 CARE Award from the State of Colorado. Notably, she authored “The Tales of Pepper Dog” under the penname Sandra Allen in 2014.
