78 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Drawing upon a BA in physical education from the University of California Berkeley and an MS in physical education from California State University, East Bay, Maureen Mattson is a physical education teacher and coach who has accrued 35 years’ experience in her profession. Serving as a physical education instructor at Pittsburg High School since 1986, she has also excelled as department chair and coach of varsity girls’ basketball, varsity boys’ volleyball, freshman girls’ basketball and assistant swim coach. Likewise, she served Pittsburg High School as an assistant principal from 1998 to 1999 and assistant athletic director between 2010 and 2012. Notably, she founded the unified sports program in 2015. Ms. Mattson has received several accolades. Named Teacher of the Year by Contra Costa County and the Pittsburg Unified School District from 2019 to 2020, she earned the Pittsburg Unified School District’s Equity Award in 2017 and was inducted into the Hollister High School Hall of Fame in 2012. She was honored as Volunteer of the Year by Special Olympics Northern California in 2015 and Women’s Basketball Honor Coach by the North Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation in 1996. PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER Pittsburg High School Pittsburg, CA Dr. Susan Anderson Miller has written over 450 publications and six columns in journals and magazines, as well as authored and consulted on over 30 books for young children, parents and teachers. At Syracuse University, she earned a BS in family relations/ child development and MA in elementary education. In 1984, she was awarded an EdD in early childhood education from Nova University. Beginning in 1972, she taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where she was also coordinator of the England Study Abroad program. Prior, she was director of Reading, PA, Title IVA child care, master laboratory school teacher and professor at SUNY Potsdam. Dr. Miller served on national organizations’ advisory, editorial and executive boards, such as the World Organization for Early ChildhoodUnited States National Committee and Association for Childhood Education International, during which, in 2001, she received the Outstanding Member Service Award and contributed to Scholastic magazines for 25 years. Receiving accolades for her book series on the cognitive, social and emotional development of three- and four-year-olds, “Growing Up in Stages” was published in Spanish in Madrid in 2019.
