145 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS A revered clinical psychologist with expertise in child, adolescent and adult psychology, Dr. William Lyman Camp has excelled in private practice in Platteville and Marinette, Wisconsin, since 1970. Drawing upon more than 60 years of experience in psychology and academia, he commenced his career in the late 1950s as an educator and administrator for public schools in both Wisconsin and Illinois. This includes the development of the District U-46 Department of Research and Development, the first such institution in Illinois outside of the Chicago Public School System. Dr. Camp then served the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Research and Guidance Laboratory for Superior Students and, in 1968, began his tenure as an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He ascended to become associate professor in 1970 until departing from the university in 1981. For the following 23 years, he was chief psychologist for the Marinette Department of Health and Human Services between 1981 and 2004. During that period, he also conducted psychological evaluations for government agencies, such as court-ordered forensic evaluations, and has supervised doctoral and master’s level training for future counselors and psychologists. He also served as a consultant for the Wisconsin and Michigan Bureaus of Social Security Disability Insurance since 1982, and as a lecturer in behavioral modification and other psychology courses for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay beginning in 1980 and for NorthernMichigan University beginning in 1981. Dr. Camp received a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, followed by an MS and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Licensed to practice psychology in Wisconsin since 1970, he completed postdoctoral coursework at the University of Chicago and Mendota Mental Health Institute. A versatile writer, Dr. Camp authored books titled, “America’s Education Press,” “Parenting Our Children in a Changing World,” “Understanding and Managing the Difficult Child,” “Understanding the Adult-Parent Relationship” and “Adlerian Counseling Theory and Practice,” among others.
