WORDEN A retired chief of the Summit Fire Department, John C. Worden has excelled in the community services industry for six decades. As a young boy, he was inspired by his local fire department and decided to follow the same career path. Beginning his work at the Summit Fire Department in 1961, he ascended the ranks to become chief of the fire department in 1973, remaining in that role until 1997. He again served as chief from 2008 to 2012. Mr. Worden has been serving as board chair of the County Disaster Assistance Response Team, zoning administrator of Summit Township since 1986 and current board chair of Jackson Community Ambulance. Holding an AA in liberal arts from Jackson Community College and coursework in labor relations and political science from Michigan State University, Mr. Worden graduated from the Executive Fire Officer Training Program at the National Fire Academy. Earlier in his career, he was superintendent of the Public Works Department, chief of police and chief of fire department services for Summit Township, and administrative chief of the Leoni Township Fire Department. He has earned a myriad of accolades for his accomplishments, including having a building named in his honor.
