33 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT appointment, she served as a teacher of piano, piano pedagogy and keyboard harmonization at Bethany College from 1961 to 1967 and an accompanying staff member of the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, from 1962 to 1963. Previously, Ms. Priess excelled as a piano player for the Freshman and Sophomore Girls’ Glee Club and Ensemble for Buhler Rural High School from 1958 to 1961, as well as an elementary vocal music teacher in Johnson, Kansas, from 1956 to 1958. Alongside her primary endeavors, Ms. Priess has also dedicated her passion for music civically to several churches as an organist. Among the many religious institutions, she has played for the First Christian Church, the First United Methodist Church, the Hutchinson Congregational and the Second Church of Christ. Additionally, she has performed freelance piano playing at various school choirs, and has played piano at weddings, funerals and in private studios. Notably, Ms. Priess was a performer with the Rose Hill Master Chorale during the 500th Commemorative Concert of Johann Sebastian Bach, and was an accompanist at the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and several music festivals. Drawing upon a BM in applied piano in 1955 and a BM in music education from Bethany College in 1956, as well as an MM in applied piano from Northwestern University, Ms. Priess was listed in Who’s Who Among American College and Universities and received the Sword of Honor by Sigma Alpha Iota and the Rose of Honor by the Theta Province. She maintained membership with the Wichita Area Piano Teachers League from 1967 to 1989. She was an alumnae chapter president at Bethany College and was president of the Theta Province from 1967 to 1970. Supported by a lifelong passion for music, both in listening and in practice, Joyce Marie Priess excelled as a piano teacher at Friends University in Kansas between 1967 and 1995, where she also taught as a teacher of freshman theory between 1967 and 1984.
