SULLINS An alumnus of Oakland University, Kenneth W. Sullins earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics in 1970 and a Master of Arts in teaching in 1975. Commencing his career in 1972, he served numerous junior and senior high schools in the State of Michigan as a seventh to 12th grade mathematics teacher until 1999. After briefly serving as a press operator for JAC Products and text layout technician for Sheridan Books, Inc., he joined the faculty of Mansfield University in 2001, teaching as an adjunct instructor until 2011. Concurrently, Mr. Sullins has excelled at Empire State College since 2004, where he has been an adjunct instructor in mathematics, science and computer technology. A contributor of myriad articles in professional journals, Mr. Sullins has presented at conferences for over 25 years, where he has discussed discreet mathematics and leading mathematics into the 21st century. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and was honored with a 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Oakland University baseball team. He has been profiled in three editions of Who’s Who in America. Leland W. Thornton was the first in his family to learn how to read, and after hearing historical stories dating back to the Civil War, he decided to delve into the field of history. Receiving a BS in education and history from The Ohio State University, he went on to earn two MA degrees in history from Michigan State University and Western Michigan University. He commenced his career in 1956 as a high school history and English teacher at ParmaWestern High School, and as his career progressed, he began teaching at the collegiate level at the University of Illinois, Joliet Township Junior College, Glen Oaks Community College and Spring Arbor University. Retiring in 2007, Mr. Thornton most recently served Spring Arbor University as an adjunct professor of art history. During his tenure at Glen Oaks Community College, Mr. Thornton was a professor of history, chairman of the humanities division, editor of the Riverrun literary magazine and acting vice president for academic affairs between 1977 and 2001. Authoring myriad articles in various magazines, journals and books, he was named Outstanding Teacher of History by the Illinois State Historical Society in 1965. LELAND W. THORNTON
