Since becoming a foster parent, she has raised more than 35 children, 10 of whom remain in contact with her on a regular basis. Ms. Gillaird notes that social services is a demanding industry comprised of not only foster parents, but also social workers, therapists, psychologists and other professionals within the fields of social work and health care. All personnel involved are dedicated to the betterment of the children in their care, and Ms. Gillaird also emphasizes the importance of remaining true to the children, particularly in moments of strife. Looking toward the future, Ms. Gillaird intends to complete her college education to become a more well-rounded professional in the social services industry. She would also like to spend more time with her own grandchildren. Adrienne Denise Gillaird always desired to work with children, particularly within the field of social services. Possessing an innate compassion for children who have been separated from their parents, as well as understanding the trials and tribulations of foster care, she sought to make a difference in the lives of children and create a better environment in which they could thrive. Working in the social services industry for over a decade, Ms. Gillaird subsequently joined the Jane Addams Hull House, where she has served as a foster parent. Notably, Ms. Gillaird has received a myriad of accolades throughout her career in social work in light of her outstanding empathy for children, success in fostering children and exemplary work ethic. Prior to becoming a foster parent, she joined a pilot program in which she accepted sibling groups of children. Over the course of more than 25 years, the program dedicated itself to teaching and training foster parents to maximize their full potential and aid in the stimulation of foster children’s minds.
