206 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HOSPITALITY AND LEISURE Equipped with a lifelong interest in boats and sailing, Allan Jan Glick was able to embody his dream career in the 1980s when he achieved a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license. With this, he began serving as a captain and instructor with the International School of Sailing in 1982. Between 1984 and 1989, he was the captain of the full-service charter yacht, “Yesterday’s Dream,” through which he conducted sailing excursions and guided snorkeling tours in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Thereafter, he owned and captained “Amelia Rose,” with which he continued doing sailing and snorkeling tours in the Virgin Islands. Since 1999, Mr. Glick has used his nautical talents and skills to serve as a Captain for San Diego Parasail Adventures, San Diego Harbor Excursions, a captain and instructor for Harbor Sailboats and San Diego Pirate Ship Adventures. Since 2012, he has been the lead captain for San Diego Sailing Tours and, since 2015, a captain for the Maritime Museum of San Diego. During his tenure at the Maritime Museum, Mr. Glick has captained the “Californian” (a 140-foot topsail schooner), the official Tall Ship of California, and the “San Salvador,” an authentic replica of a Spanish Galleon. While having a major part in San Diego Pirate Adventures, he is an actor portraying a Pirate Captain during their interactive Pirate Shows, which is done on one of the Tall Ships he captains. He also helps create the content for these shows. Mr. Glick obtained aBS in education and liberal arts fromBostonUniversity in 1975, where he spent three years on the university’s sailing team. Subsequently, he graduated from the Chapman School of Seamanship’s preparation program for the U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license in 1982, through which he completed vocational training in seamanship, navigation, ship’s systems, maintenance and safety. Certified as a sailing instructor by the American Sailing Association, he enjoys sharing his passion for sailing with others. He says, “When I was a boy, I played with boats, and now, they pay me to play with boats.” Upon retirement, he would like to serve as a docent at the Maritime Museum.
