212 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT Since 1979, Elkan Abramowitz has excelled as a trial lawyer with the New York City-based firm Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello. As a trial lawyer, he focuses his practice on white collar crime and civil litigation, having represented both individuals and corporations in state and federal courts alike. Likewise, he specializes in government investigations, political corruption, internal investigations, securities and regulation, and fraud and insider trading. Accruing nearly 60 years of experience in law, Mr. Abramowitz previously served as chief of the criminal division from 1976 to 1978 and assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York from 1966 to 1970, having previously been a law clerk to the Honorable Inzer B. Wyatt for two years from 1964 to 1966. In addition, he is a past assistant deputy mayor of New York City, special counsel to the select committee on crime for the U.S. House of Representatives and lecturer on trial advocacy at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He received a BA from Brown University in 1961 and a JD from the New York University School of Law in 1964, and was admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Demonstrating versatility in his profession, Mr. Abramowitz is a prolific writer, having co-authored a column in the New York Law Journal, titled “White Collar Crime” for many years. Furthermore, he co-wrote “Corporate Sentencing Under the Federal Guidelines” and the treatise chapter, “White Collar Crime: Business and Regulatory Offenses.” In light of his success, Mr. Abramowitz was elected a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and received the Milton S. Gould Award for Outstanding Advocacy from the Office of the Appellate Defender in 1999. Most recently, he was honored with the Norman Ostrow Award from the New York Council of Defense Lawyers in 2008 and has been profiled by Chambers USA, Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers and The New York Times.
