Always desiring to attain a global position, Dr. Cortina de la Fuente is grateful to have had the opportunity to travel from Mexico to the United States to fulfill his aspirations. Earlier in his career, Dr. Cortina de la Fuente served as the market access hematology franchise lead for Latin America and Canada at Norvatis from 2016 to 2020 and global advocacy deputy director at Bayer Health Care from 2011 to 2016, having also served Bayer as the regional market access deputy director for Latin America from 2011 to 2013. Likewise, Dr. Cortina de la Fuente was the value proposition business unit head for Abbott Laboratories from 2009 to 2001 and an epidemiology and economic evaluation manager for Roche Pharmaceuticals from 2007 to 2008. He commenced his career with the Mexican Foundation for Health (FUNSALUD) as the executive coordinator for regional initiatives for HIV/AIDS in 2004, holding the role for two years. Dr. Cortina de la Fuente attributes his success to his passion for his work and putting the patients first. With early goals of helping patients across the globe, he endeavored to attend medical school and received an MD from Anáhuac University in 2001. Shortly thereafter, he received an MS in health policy, planning and financing from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2004. After accruing many years in the field, he completed a postgraduate diploma in strategic performance management in health in 2014. Looking toward the future, Dr. Cortina de la Fuente intends to ascend to a senior position at Biogen. He would also like to begin mentoring other individuals in the field. Involved in the pharmaceutical industry for nearly 20 years, Dr. Diego Cortina de la Fuente has excelled as the director of global value and access at Biogen since 2020.
