She was also a teaching assistant, lecturer and associate director of the freshman English program at the University of Southern California. Dr. Passty pursued an education at Los Angeles Valley College, receiving an AA in 1966. From there, she enrolled in the University of California Los Angeles and received a BA in 1968. Subsequently, she matriculated at the University of Southern California, obtaining an MA in 1974 and PhD in 1982. She was invited to lecture internationally at the University of London and University of Wales. Dr. Passty penned three biographies in the “American Women Writers” encyclopedia, “Conquering Diabetes” in 2012 and “The Music of the Spheres” in 2011. She wrote “Hard Times and Great Expectations” in 2010, “Creating the Spark” in 2009 and “Bringing Denis Home: The Hero from Hope, Kansas” in 2001. She was an interviewee on radio and contributed articles to journals and book chapters. In 1991, she became a manuscript reviewer for the Fairleigh Dickinson University Press. Dr. Passty was inducted into the Alamo College Women’s Hall of Fame in 2009 and received a NISOD Medallion for Excellence in Teaching and Leadership fromUT Austin in 2003 and St. Philip’s College Teaching Excellence Awards in 2004 and 2012. She earned the Katherine Anne Porter Literature Prize in 1999, “Outstanding Academic Book” Award from the American Library Association in 1989 and Letters of Appreciation from HRH Princess Margaret and Lord BonhamCarter for her biocritical study of Dame Rose Macaulay’s novels, “Eros and Androgyny.” Dr. Jeanette N. Passty has excelled as an English language and literature educator at St. Philip’s College since 1988. First hired as assistant professor, she was promoted to associate professor in 1992.
