He commenced his career in his early 20s after being discharged from the United States Army in 1968, where he notably served one year in Vietnam. Among the highlights of his career, Mr. Esmond is particularly proud of helping civilians in the Gulf Breeze community. In December of 2020, he paid 114 families’ past due utility bills and, during the holiday season of 2019, he paid 46 families’ past due utility bills. In light of his humanitarian efforts, the Planters Peanuts’ “A Nut Above” program, a program that aids individuals who are in dire circumstances, awarded Mr. Esmond with $104,000, which he used to pay the utility bills of more than 600 families in Gulf Breeze. Mr. Esmond notes that his philanthropist nature has stemmed from his past experiences of enduring a cold winter without heat. Leveraging that experience and reflecting upon the sacrifices he had to make to help his family survive, he intends to continue helping others so they will not struggle with the same dilemmas. In addition, Mr. Esmond is noteworthy for placing American flags on the poles lining the three-mile Pensacola Bay Bridge and throughout Gulf Breeze during the Gulf War in 1991 and after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Coined as the “Phantom Patriot,” Mr. Esmond sought to inspire and preserve patriotism and service members in the United States through his dedicated efforts. As a result, he was honored by the Pensacola chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was named a “Difference Maker in the Pensacola Area” by The Studer Group LLC. Since 2010, Mike J.
