239 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY David Joseph Lachance commenced his career as a student at the University of New Hampshire, where he earned a BA in 1973. Subsequently commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves that same year, he continued his career in 1975 with the United States Department of the Interior as a geologist. Noting that the field of geology was intriguing as it incorporated all aspects of science, Mr. Lachance was first stationed in Metairie, Louisiana, before relocating to the State of Washington, where he was a geologist from 1976 to 1983. During this time, he earned an MS from Eastern Washington University in 1978. Following his tenure in Washington State, Mr. Lachance served as a geologist with the Department of the Interior in Milwaukee until his retirement in 2014. While excelling as a geologist, he focused his efforts on the eastern portion of the United States, through which he and his wife discovered that Michigan was not lined with faults, thereby proving previous theories. While serving in the military during his career, Mr. Lachance was a major during the Gulf War in the early 1990s. He leveraged his experiences in the Army Reserves to write numerous short stories and stage plays, including “An End to War, An End to Peace” in 2012. The screenplay has served as an adaptation of Mr. Lachance’s interpretation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” after he returned from the Gulf War and, interestingly, he was often told that his stage play was too complex for regular community theater actors. To this end, Mr. Lachance has endeavored to have his play performed by professional actors in an effort to help active-duty military members and veterans heal from war trauma. Other short stories to Mr. Lachance’s credit have included “The Plaza,” “Pleiades” and “Art Forum,” as well as two plays, “Pray for Me at Your Own Risk” and “The Gift.” His 1994 stage play, “Faces in the Raft,” was produced as a screenplay by screenwriter Anton Diether in 1999.
