69 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION In light of his innate desire to educate and aid others, as well as his passion for the sciences, Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum sought to delve into both medicine and academia. For more than 40 years, he has excelled as a clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University in New York, having also been named the Edgar Leifer Clinical Professor at Columbia in 1992. Notably, Dr. Leifer was a resounding influence on Dr. Tenenbaum, which prompted much enthusiasm when he was named the Edgar Leifer Clinical Professor. Alongside his primary teaching appointment, Dr. Tenenbaum organized the Columbia University Faculty Practice Organization from 2000 to 2003, during which time he also served as an attending physician and interim chairperson within the Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He also held a myriad of leadership and executive-level roles at Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Likewise, Dr. Tenenbaum has volunteered at the American Austrian Foundation, where he also taught international medicine and is a past vice chairperson of medicine. To prepare for his career, Dr. Tenenbaum pursued a formal education at Brandeis University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. Thereafter, he received an MD from the prestigious Harvard University in 1974. During his academic studies, he was mentored by Professor Henry Linschitz and Dr. Willian Silen, who both greatly impacted Dr. Tenenbaum’s past work and subsequent work in his field. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Tenenbaum earned the Teacher of the Year Award from Columbia University in 2010, which he cites was a crowning moment of his career. Attributing his success to his interest in patient care and love of teaching, he has also been profiled in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World. Looking toward the future, he intends to experience the continued success of his career at Columbia University.
