FOSSUM, PHD Dr. Robert M. Fossum joined the University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign in 1964, where he first served as an instructor. Escalating through the ranks over the course of his career, he became an assistant professor in 1966, associate professor in 1968 and full professor in 1972. Working within the department of mathematics, Dr. Fossum attained emeritus status in 2008. During this time, he also notably served as a professor at the Beckman Institute for eight years. Post-retirement, he continued his vocational endeavors as the president of Tronderlag of America for five years. Drawing upon a BA from St. Olaf College and an MA and PhD from the University of Michigan, Dr. Fossum has lectured abroad at Aarhus University and Copenhagen University in Denmark, as well as at Oslo University in Norway and the University of Paris in France. For his achievements, he received the 2010 Alumni Achievement Award from St. Olaf College and was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Mathematical Society. Further, he is a senior member of the IEEE and a lifetime member of the Association for Computing Machinery. Drawing upon a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and master’s degree in health science, both from Washington University, Dr. Ethel Maureen Frese is recognized extensively for her expertise in health care. Receiving a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Saint Louis University in 2006, she previously served the university as a professor in the Doisy College of Health Sciences for 43 years until attaining emeritus status in 2021. Earlier in her career, she was an adjunct instructor at the Washington University School of Medicine, University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Meramec Junior College. Likewise, she served in clinical capacities with St. Joseph Hospital, Missouri Baptist Hospital and Saint Louis University Hospital, among others. Dr. Frese formerly sat on the editorial boards of the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal and the Journal of Gerontology. To attest to her success, she received the Lucy Blair Service Award from the American Physical Therapy Association and the Helen Holzum Whealan Service Award from the Eastern District of the Missouri Physical Therapy Association. Despite these illuminating achievements, however, she is especially proud to have served as the mace bearer for Saint Louis University’s 2021 graduation ceremony. DR. ETHEL MAUREEN FRESE
