80 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION PROFESSOR EMERITUS University of North Florida Jacksonville, FL Vera Rebecca Lloyd S. Johnson desired to become a school teacher since she was in first grade. Upon receiving a BS in elementary education from the University at Buffalo in 1966, she began serving as a pre-kindergarten through sixth grade public school teacher in various school districts across New York and Massachusetts. In addition, she was a founding team member of the B.U.I.L.D. Academy, executive director of the Day Care Coordinator Council and training coordinator for the Economic Opportunity Commission. During this time, she also received an MS in elementary education from her alma mater in 1971. Prior to her retirement in 2008, Ms. Johnson was a curriculum specialist for the Washington Rose Elementary School. Ms. Johnson is a certified school administrator and supervisor by the New York State Board of Education and previously served as a consultant for Scholastic Publications and mentor for the Leadership Training Institute. As a testament to her success, she was named the 1991-1992 Teacher of the Year by the Roosevelt School District, as well as received a monetary grant from LeVar Burton’s “Reading Rainbow” television program through PBS in 1996. Johnson served as a business dean at four universities: Rochester Institute of Technology, Texas Christian University, University of Colorado at Boulder and University of North Florida. He also held positions as interim vice president of university relations and interim executive director of the University Foundation at University of North Florida. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology fromAntioch College, master’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University, and PhD in management fromMichigan State University. Dr. Johnson has held professorial positions in management at West Virginia University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Texas Christian University, University of Colorado at Boulder and University of North Florida, fromwhich he retired in 2008 with emeritus status. He received numerous awards for his outstanding and innovative teaching, including two national awards, two university-wide awards and eight College of Business Awards. Dr. Johnson is published in academic and professional journals and has presented academic papers at conferences throughout the world. He served on numerous business and nonprofit boards of directors and government commissions, including serving as chairman of the board of Blue Cross of Rochester, New York.
