170 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Desiring to serve others from a young age, Dr. Keia V. R. Hewitt always wanted to ensure that every individual has equitable access to health care, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. Since 2020, she has excelled as the director of emergency services and chief of emergency medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Lancaster. In her dual roles, she is responsible for implementing medical guidelines, as well as managing operations for the emergency departments in the Lancaster Division. Alongside these positions, Dr. Hewitt is passionate about patient safety within the emergency services departments. Prior to her current appointments, Dr. Hewitt was a consulting traveling physician in North Carolina from 2018 to 2020 and served as director and chief of emergency services at Atrium Health Stanly in Albemarle, North Carolina, from 2015 to 2018. Additionally, she served as a staff physician and quality director at Atrium Health in Huntersville, North Carolina, between 2006 and 2015. Outside of her primary endeavors, Dr. Hewitt has further lent her expertise as a locum tenens physician for the Navajo Nation in Arizona and flourished as a prior adjunct professor in Wingate University’s Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Hewitt draws upon a BS fromXavier University of Louisiana in 1995, an MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2001, and an MBA and MPH from Benedict University in 2016. Board certified in emergency medicine, she was elected a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Civically engaged as well, Dr. Hewitt is involved in various organizations that promote equity in the arts and entertainment industry. As a testament to her success, Dr. Hewitt received the Distance and Impact Award from the Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity Section of the American College of Emergency Physicians in 2020. She attributes her immense success to the encouragement of her parents, as they emphasized the importance of higher education, working diligently and serving others.
