Alongside this influence, she was inspired to enter health care due to the premier care she received when she was diagnosed with tetanus when she was 17 years old. Migrating to Canada, Dr. Jattan-Cunningham received a BS in biochemistry, with a minor in pharmacology, from Concordia University in 1977. Subsequently, she returned to the Caribbean and enrolled in the University of the West Indies, earning a MBBS in 1982. Thereafter, she completed an internship at the Port of Spain General Hospital in Trinidad in 1982. For a brief period of time, Dr. JattanCunningham lived in the United Kingdom, and she received a diploma in dermatology from the University of London in 1987. However, her heart was set on caring for children; following her receipt of her degrees, she relocated to the United States and completed a residency in pediatrics at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 1993 to 1995. Since completing her residency training, Dr. Jattan-Cunningham has excelled as a pediatrician and partner of Conyers Pediatrics in Georgia. Notably, Dr. Jattan-Cunningham is recognized as a fellowof the American Academy of Pediatrics and was named a Stellar Physician by Rockdale Medical Center in 2002. Additionally, she has earned a myriad of Readers Choice Awards since the inception of her career. Although she has experienced many highlights, she is especially proud and humbled by her ability to connect with her patients and their families. To wit, she has aided these families in understanding the complexities of medicine in a simple format, as well as taught healthy habits to patients and expressed love and compassion. Looking toward the future, Dr. Jattan-Cunningham intends to delve deeper into her theology studies. A native of Trinidad, West Indies, Dr. Lynette S. Jattan-Cunningham was the second oldest of nine children and always tended to her siblings while her parents worked.
