For the following four years, he taught mathematics and physics at the University of Illinois, Oklahoma State University and Arizona State University until 1999. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Keranen served as a physics instructor at Bay College from 1999 to 2000, as well as at Arizona State University from 2000 to 2001. Relocating to Texas, he was recognized as the NCPACE professor of mathematics at Central Texas College, where he served the school in teaching summer sessions until 2019. During this time, he also served as an adjunct faculty member at New Mexico State University in 2018, where he focused his research on superconductors and zonotopes. While teaching at New Mexico Junior College, Mr. Keranen notably authored “Physics for Automotive Technicians” in 2014. He has maintained membership with the Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honor Society and has been honored tremendously for his efforts in academia. In 2010, he earned the Elliot &Waldron Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from New Mexico Junior College and, from 1995 to 1996, received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award from the University of Illinois. He was also profiled in the third edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering in 1996. To prepare for his career, Mr. Keranen pursued a formal education at Michigan Technological University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in 1991. He then received a Master of Science at the University of Illinois in 1992 before returning to Michigan Technological University, where he received an additional Master of Science in 1995. Looking forward, he intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career. Supported by 30 years of valuable expertise in academia, Joel A. Keranen has excelled as a professor of physics, mathematics and engineering at New Mexico Junior College since 2001.
