97 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENERGY, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING While pursuing his undergraduate studies at Purdue University, Don R. Schilling became interested in electrical engineering. Drawing upon prior experience with his uncle, who owned a radio repair shop and made Mr. Schilling an AM radio, Mr. Schilling obtained a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1973. Subsequently, he began serving as an electrical engineer for Indiana Michigan Power Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he remained for six years. During this time, he also completed a Master of Science in business administration from Indiana University in 1977. Mr. Schilling joined Decatur County REMC in Greensburg, Indiana, in 1979, where he first served as an assistant general manager until 1986. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to general manager and president, remaining in those roles until his retirement in 2017. Congruent to this path, Mr. Schilling also served as secretary-treasurer and president of Hometown Energy LLC between 2001 and 2017. Overall, he accrued more than 40 years of experience in engineering and holds a professional engineer license in the State of Indiana. In light of his laudable achievements, Mr. Schilling is especially proud of his longstanding tenure with Decatur County REMC, where there were no fatalities recorded throughout his entire career with the company. Likewise, he is also proud of becoming president of his local economic development corporation, through which he and his colleagues took the Honda Assembly Plant to Greensburg, Indiana, and brought an additional 2,000 jobs to the area. To remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Schilling is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Greensburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Notably, he served the Chamber of Commerce as president in 1994 and, years later, was recognized as the Community Leader of the Year in 2015. Mr. Schilling is also a member of the New Point Masonic Lodge #255. He attributes his success to his diligent work ethic and utilizing the help of his employees whenever it was possible.
