Working in myriad capacities for the funeral home beginning in 1966, he became owner andCEO in 2005. During this time, hewas a practicing attorney fromwhich he retired in 2015, a vice president and counsel for the American Express Company, and the owner of 22 West Restaurant (“Malcolm X’s Home Away from Home”) and A & S Carriage Service. Mr. Alston is a past trustee of the Metropolitan College of New York, past president of the DeWitt Clinton High School Alumni Association and current president of the Barbara M Simpson Memorial Fund, providing over 20 scholarships of $1,000 to young adults seeking careers in literature and STEM. He excelled as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx and a Civil Court Law Secretary in Manhattan. He is a member of the New York State and Federal Bar Associations. Mr. Alston is a Gold lifetime member of the NAACP, Platinum lifetime member of NCNW, and board member of the North East Bronx Day Care Center and the Williamsbridge NAACP Childcare Center. He raised tens of thousands of dollars for scholarships at the McCall’s Bronxwood 50th Anniversary Gala. His annual community-wide Christmas event raises toys for hospitalized and homeless children and funds for UNCF. Mr. Alstonwas elected a Fellowof theAmericanBar Association Foundation, an honoree of the Lehman College Urban Male Leadership Program and a community honoree of the New York Chapter of the MICO Old Students Association. He was named Business Leader of the Year by The Bronx County Historical Association, Businessman of the Year by The Macedonia Baptist Church, and earned the International Lawyer’s Award by the Manila College of Law, Distinguished Service Award from the Bronx-Manhattan North Association of Realtors, Bronx Business Hall of Fame “Change Maker Award” from the New York State Legislature and International Excellence Award in Scholarship Support from NANBPWC.
