Additionally, Ms. Ernest was the owner of a home health care business in Austin, Texas, the executive director of a national home health care facility, a chief hospital nurse and a Medicare auditor, among other roles. Attributing her success to hard work, perseverance and her faith in God, Ms. Ernest was honored as a member of the International Executive Guild. She received the Leadership Award from the Philippines Nurses Association in 2010 and, in 2006, she was named a Nurse Entrepreneur of the Year. Looking toward the future, she has several goals, some of which include easing into a well-deserved retirement, authoring a book regarding her life journey and her experiences in nursing, and inspiring others to pursue nursing careers. She is a past president of the Philippine Nurses Association. Always possessing a desire tohelpothers, Maria Theresa Ernest sought a formal education at the University of Santo Tomas, where she earned a BSN in 1978. After serving as a radiology nurse in her native Philippines, she traveled to Saudi Arabia, Northern Africa and Canada to excel in various nursing-related professions. Subsequently, she immigrated to the United States to pursue a fulltime nursing career and has since accrued more than 40 years of expertise in the industry. Since 2005, she has thrived as the chief executive officer and chief nursing officer of Ernest Enterprises in El Paso, Texas, where she focuses her efforts on intensive care unit, radiology, special procedures and medical-surgical nursing. The recipient of an MBA in health care management from the University of Phoenix in 2002, Ms. Ernest is a registered nurse and holds certifications in advanced cardiovascular life support and basic life support. She is serving as a senior nurse evaluator in New Mexico at present, where she notably led testing efforts for certified nursing assistant (CNA) students.
