164 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS an advisor for the annual ACOM Simulation Competition, which he considers a career highlight. His Competition Medical Simulation teams have won three national championships from the American Medical Student Association and one international championship in Paris between 2017 and 2021. A member of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Giannini has received myriad accolades over the course of his career. TheACOM Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents bestowed upon him the Outstanding Advancement in Osteopathic Medical Educator Award in 2019. Additionally, he has received several Teaching Awards from ACOM and the American Medical Student Association. Looking forward, Dr. Giannini intends to continue teaching at ACOM. They are expanding their Medical Simulation Center to eight rooms, which will garner increased knowledge for both students and colleagues. In 1969, Dr. John Giannini enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served in the United States and Puerto Rico until 1973. Attaining the rank of hospital corpsman and operating room technician, E-3, he was encouraged to attend medical school upon his military retirement. As such, Dr. Giannini attended the University of Louisville, earning a BS in 1976 and graduating from Physician’s Assistant School at Duke University in 1979. After practicing as a surgical physician’s assistant in Florida, he returned to the University of Louisville and earned an MD in 1984. Dr. Giannini completed a general surgery residency and internal medicine residency and served as chief resident until 1990. Subsequently, he went into private practice in internal medicine in Jacksonville, Florida, until 2007. After his retirement frommedicine, he became an assistant professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine. Relocating to Alabama, Dr. Giannini has since become an associate professor and director of the Medical Simulation Center at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) since 2015.
