Equipped with 30 years of industry experience, he is now recognized as an interventional cardiologist, researcher and educator. Since 2000, Dr. Gibson has served the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, in myriad capacities, including as chief of clinical research since 2006. Alongside this appointment, he has been the president and chief executive officer of the Baim Institute for Clinical Research, formerly known as the Harvard Clinical Research Institute, since 2017. Likewise, he has excelled as a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School since 2012, where he has also sat as chairman and founder of the academic research organization PERFUSE since 1987. Congruent to these positions, Dr. Gibson has also lent his time and expertise to the WikiDoc Foundation as founder, chairman of the board and editor-in-chief since 2005. He established the site, which is recognized as the first and largest medical wiki, as a free resource for underserved communities who did not have the resources to afford medical textbooks. Throughout his career, he has further overseen numerous clinical trials and cardiology megatrials, which have led to the international approval of pharmaceutical drugs such as prasugrel, rivaroxaban and betrixaban. In light of his accomplishments, Dr. Gibson was named among Boston’s Top Doctors by Boston Magazine, among Top Doctors by Castle Connolly and among America’s Top Physicians by U.S. News & World Report. He was also recognized among highly cited researchers between 2018 and 2020. He is an honorary member of the Turkish and Japanese Societies of Cardiology. From a young age, Dr. C. Michael Gibson desired to become a physician in light of his desire to help others. Receiving a BS and MS from the University of Chicago in 1982 and 1984, respectively, he subsequently earned an MD from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in 1986.
