Immigrating to the United States shortly thereafter, Dr. Tietke completed an additional internship at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, in 1970, and a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit by 1975. Certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Tietke relocated to Huntsville, Alabama, where he spent more than 30 years practicing medicine between 1975 and 2008. During this time, he established his own practice, titled Huntsville Gastroenterology Associates, P.C., which later was renamed the Center for Colon and Digestive Disease. During this time, he specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of various gastroenterological conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, cancer and colitis. Following his 2008 retirement, Dr. Tietke conducted clinical research for several years. In addition, since 2014 he has served as an evaluator for Medicare patients, in which he conducts health assessments on a part-time basis. To remain abreast of developments in the field, Dr. Tietke has maintained membership with the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association and the Alabama Medical Association. Aside from his primary medical endeavors, Dr. Tietke is a past clinical associate professor of internal medicine, for which he received several Excellence in Teaching Awards. Throughout his career, he has most enjoyed working closely with his patients and improving their daily lives through his treatment modalities. Looking toward the future, Dr. Tietke intends to ease into a full retirement and travel the world. In his spare time, he enjoys partaking in photography. Always desiring to work with others and improve their lives, Dr. Wilhelm Tietke pursued the field of medicine. A native of Germany, he initially earnedamedical degree from the University of Tübingen in 1967, followed by an MD from the University of Göttingen in 1968.
