Located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Switching Gears is a nonprofit organization that aids underserved families and homeless communities by providing them with necessary resources to survive, as well as establish a foundation upon which they can rebuild their lives. Driven to help others from a young age, Ms. Lewis was influenced by her grandmother, who was a caregiver in their neighborhood. Looking toward the future of Switching Gears, Ms. Lewis intends to continue the business on a larger scale and have it become not only a business, but a place of refuge. Prior to establishing Switching Gears, Ms. Lewis was the owner of a restaurant for many years, drawing upon her own love for cooking, baking, fishing and barbequing. She attributes her success to her support system, which has included her family, community and church. She notes that they have always inspired her to be the best version of herself, which is evident in her passion for aiding others in their time of need.
