She subsequently earned an MD from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City in 1993. Dr. Banaad-Omiotek notes that her interest in medicine stemmed from her childhood, as she always desired to become a doctor as an adult. Likewise, she developed an inherent interest in science and helping others. Board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Banaad-Omiotek also serves as the director of the scholarship program at Ateneo de Manila University, a position she has held since 2017. To remain abreast of changes in the everevolving medical field, she is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. As such, she attributes her immense success to the support and encouragement of her family, her diligent work ethic and the grace of God. In 2017, she earned the Hall of Fame Award for Excellence in Medicine from Via Times/CPRTV Chicago. Outside of her primary endeavors, Dr. BanaadOmiotek is a second-degree black belt, which she received in September of 2020. She earned her first-degree black belt in 2016. Exclaiming that she has been practicing martial arts for more than 10 years, she was ultimately inspired by her son, who has also been involved in the sport. As a testament to her success, Dr. BanaadOmiotek has been highlighted in the 71st and 72nd editions of Who’s Who in America in 2018 and 2019, respectively. She has been married to her husband, Chester Omiotek, for several years with whom she shares two sons, Nicholas and Alexander. Looking toward the future, she intends to steadily decrease her workload so she can enjoy spending time with family and engaging in her several hobbies. A native of Quezon City, Philippines, Dr. Maria Lourdes G. Banaad-Omiotek is a distinguished family physician who presently serves in private practice in Chicago.
