DuBois has excelled as the dean of the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina since 2016, as well as the director of the university’s Hollings Cancer Center since 2020 and a distinguished university professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Medicine since 2019. Supported by more than 30 years of experience in academia, Dr. DuBois served the Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a professor for over 15 years and directed the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Subsequently, he served the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as provost, executive vice president of academic affairs, and Ellen Knisely distinguished chair in colon cancer research. He also excelled as Executive Director of the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University and professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. DuBois was inspired to enter health care after several relatives were diagnosed with cancer. Outside of academia, he is an expert in the prevention and early detection of cancer and was the first to report the connection between the COX-2 enzyme, inflammatory mediators, and colon cancer. He holds a U.S. patent for the invention of a method for identifying and targeting cellular genes required for viral growth and cellular genes that are tumor suppressors in mammals. He has written over 160 articles, 60 review articles, 25 book chapters, and three books. A fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. DuBois was president of several medical societies and was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine. Bestowed with myriad accolades, including the Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research, the Catedra Gonzalo Rio Arronte Award, and the Dorothy P. Landon AACR Cancer Research Prize, Dr. DuBois holds a BS in biochemistry with honors from Texas A&M University, a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and an MD from the University of Texas School of Medicine.
