Well regarded for her creativity, Dr. Crump recently published a book, “From GED to PhD: My Journey Toward Becoming an Extraordinary Woman,” in January 2022. She maintains membership with several industry-related organizations, and she remains dedicated to civic advocacy by being actively involved with the Crump Family Scholarship for nursing students with a focus on dignity care at end of life at William Paterson University. Dr. Crump attributes much of her success to the love and support of her husband and children. In the coming years, she hopes to continue empowering students and remaining an active role model for nurses and colleagues. Dr. Barbara V. Crump has more than three decades of experience in the health care industry. Prior to joining United Health Care, she worked within the veteran health care system as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner, specializing in medical oncology for over 25 years. She also worked as a nurse practitioner at the Mount Sinai Medical Oncology Clinic and Columbia University in gynecologic oncology. In her present position for UnitedHealth Care, Dr. Crump provides preventive care, wellness and health education. Dr. Crump initially began her career working as medical and surgical nurse in orthopedics at Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair, New Jersey. An educator as well, she worked as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University and Best Care College and as an associate professor at Felician University. Dr. Crump pursued her own formal education after dropping out of high school and being a teenage mother. She began by obtaining her GED, and then enrolled at William Paterson University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
