Board certified in internal medicine, endocrinology and nuclear medicine, Dr. Linfoot completed a BS in medicine and an MS in physiology and pharmacology from the University of North Dakota in 1955, and went on to earn an MD from Harvard Medical School in 1957. He completed his residency in internal medicine, becoming chief resident, and a fellowship at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals in 1961. Since that time, he has contributed myriad articles to professional publications and has been a consultant and reviewer for the American Medical Association. Named a Top Doctor in Lafayette, California, in 2016, Dr. Linfoot has practiced endocrine medicine in Lafayette with his son, Dr. Peter Linfoot, since 2007. He previously earned an Honorary Alumni Award from the University of North Dakota and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Supported by over 65 years of experience in clinical research and endocrine practice, Dr. John A. Linfoot most recently served as a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California Davis from 1976 until attaining emeritus status in 2013. Alongside his academic endeavors, he also served the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory for 20 years as a research associate and senior staff scientist and is the director of the Diabetes and Endocrine Institute, where he treats endocrine disorders including diabetes, thyroid disorders, and hypopituitarism following post-traumatic head injuries. Earlier in his career, Dr. Linfoot served Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, California, and Summit Medical Center in Oakland, California, establishing the endocrine laboratories and consulting services at the hospitals. He was also the medical director of Health and Nutrition Technology for a decade, and was the director of the Bay Reference Laboratory for three years.
