A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 217 F or over four decades, Benjamin Ching Kee Kwan has specialized in diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries of the eye. A diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Kwan currently serves as a clinical professor in the department of ophthalmology at UCLA, a position he has held for more than 20 years. Besides educating the medical professionals of tomorrow, he was the chief of service in ophthalmology and a partner in the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. His work over the years has earned him several honors, including a Service Award from the Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center, a Proclamation Award from the California secretary of state, a Service Award from the East L.A. Chinese Everspring Senior Association and service and pioneer awards from the Chinese American Ophthalmological Society. Aside from his career, Dr. Kwan is very active within his community, having served as chairman of the Winter Blossom Ball for the Chinese American Debutante’s Guild in 1993. A member of the board of directors of the Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center from 1993, he is also affiliated with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, served as the president of the Chinese American Ophthalmological Society, the Chinese Physicians Society of Southern California, and the Organization of Chinese Americans, for which he was president of the Los Angeles Chapter. From 1969 to 1971 he served as a captain in the United States Army. Dr. Kwan has been featured in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who in the World.
