A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 339 R enowned for her ethereal abstract prints and sculptural paintings, Kathleen Sidwell is a prominent Cape Cod artist and gallery owner who has been the director and owner of The Studio on Slough Road in Brewster, Massachusetts, since 2004. Born in Denver, Colorado, to parents Richard Ellsworth and Patricia Louise Pate, she has known from her formative years that she wanted to become an artist. As a child, she attended art classes at the Denver ArtMuseum, and hermother, who crafted intricate needlework, transformed their basement into a flourishing art studio. After completing coursework at the Berkshire School of Contemporary Art in North Adams, Massachusetts, Ms. Sidwell earned a BA in history and philosophy from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1968. Thereafter, she completed additional coursework in printmaking and sculpture at Southern Methodist University. Motivated to share her talents and wealth of knowledge with others, she served as a printmaking teacher at the Cape Cod Museum of Art from2009 to 2013, as well as a gifted art teacher at St. Charles Parish high schools and middle schools between 1994 and 1995. Ms. Sidwell believes that art is a manifestation of our innermost worlds and has exhibited her work at numerous national and international galleries. Described by others as bold, adventurous and free-spirited, she approaches her work with an open mind and utilizes experimental measures in order to create pieces that are meaningful and steeped in technique and history. Within her work, she demonstrates human rights, dignity and compassion for humans and nature. The former curator and director of “Scattered Ephemera,” she is also the prominent artist behind “Ocean: US,” a mixed media collaborative show in which she gathered garbage from the beach and created art from it in an effort to highlight the importance of recycling. Married to Steven Dunn Sidwell since 1964, Ms. Sidwell is the proud mother of two sons and grandmother to six grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and advocating for children’s rights and animal’s rights. Looking toward the future, she intends to display her artwork in New York City.
