Carpenter has held an unquenchable thirst for the pursuit of scientific advancement. A former external advisor for the nuclear materials technology division of Los Alamos National Laboratory, Dr. Carpenter has developed quite a name for himself as an expert in analytical and nuclear chemistry, nuclear safeguards, and international affairs. He was notably awarded the Radiation, Science and Technology Award from the American Nuclear Society in 1987, just 12 years after completing formal education at Howard University. Since 1985, Dr. Carpenter has been a member of the board of directors with the Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology, briefly serving as president of the organization in 1994. Also well-versed in finance, he has lent his knowledge and guidance as a consultant regarding the organization of American states with the Inter-American Development Bank for more than two decades. CARPENTER, PHD PROFESSOR EMERITUS University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Cortlandt Manor, NY U tilizing more than 45 years of industry experience, Ira Harris Carmen is a renowned academic in political science, where he previously taught at the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign for 41 years. Dr. Carmen is most recognized for his role as the first political scientist to be elected to the Human Genome Organization, which is affiliated with the Human Genome Project. The Human Genome Project was an international scientific research project aimed at determining the sequence of nucleotide base pairs that composed human DNA, as well as identifying and mapping all of the genes of the human genome. Dr. Carmen holds a BA from the University of New Hampshire, and an MA and PhD from the University of Michigan. He has contributed myriad articles to professional journals and also authored four books. A competitive runner in his spare time, he received instruction in the Brady pliability training method at the Tom Brady Sports Therapy Center and provided schooling for the Brady staff.
