A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 455 I t was during her years as a camp counselor that professor Judith Hakes first fell in love with teaching. The inspiration she received from her own teachers and mentors gave her the push she needed to fulfill her dream of being an educator, and today, she does the same for future educators as a professor at Angelo State University. Ms. Hakes teaches graduate and undergraduate students the reading and social studies methods, language arts and multicultural knowledge they’ll need to someday lead classrooms of their own. Ms. Hakes holds a PhD in education with concentrations in Native American education and children’s literature and curriculum from the University of Colorado Boulder, a master’s degree in elementary curriculum from the University of Northern Colorado, and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She is affiliated with the National Council for the Social Studies, Kappa Delta Pi, and the International Reading Association. In her down time, Ms. Hakes is also a recognized master woodcarver. She is preparing for a successful future in academia with plans to conduct and publish research and continue teaching and speaking on a national level.
