110 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION T hough born in Salamanca, New York, Dr. Edward Dodge spent most of his childhood in Angola, Africa, with his missionary parents. As a child, he looked up to Dr. Alex Kemp, the mission doctor, and hoped to follow a similar career path. He was especially keen on conceptualizing ways to help those who needed it most as he traversed the second-largest continent with his family. Returning to the United States as a teenager caused significant culture shock for Dr. Dodge, but he found the inner strength to overcome the associated struggles in pursuit of his professional goals. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Taylor University in 1958, followed by an MD from Indiana University in 1962. Initially interested in surgery, Dr. Dodge later shifted his focus to public health. He earned a Master of Public Health through Johns Hopkins University in 1967 before relocating to Ethiopia with his wife and children to launch a career as an educator. Following two years as an assistant professor of public health at Haile Selassie University, he once again returned to the United States, eventually settling on Florida as his new home. Dr. Dodge found great fulfillment in maintaining a family medical practice for more than two decades before retiring in 1996. Between 2010 and 2015, he served as an adjunct professor with Africa University, located in Zimbabwe, after receiving a personal invitation to fill the position. Having lived an extraordinary life, Dr. Dodge aims to share the knowledge and wisdom he has gained in an effort to help others. His written works explore a variety of topics ranging from guides to achieving healthy lifestyles, such as “Be Healthy: Simple Guidelines for Lifelong Well-Being” and “Ten Steps to Exceptional Health,” to a memoir about his life entitled “Family: A Family Doc’s Memoir of Life in Africa and the US.” He has also authored two narrative works: “Tim’s Story: A Spiritual Perspective of Health” and “Dan’s Story: One Man’s Discovery of His Inner Health Power.” EDWARD DODGE, MD PHYSICIAN, EDUCATOR, AUTHOR San Antonio, TX
