224 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION D rawing upon more than four decades of expertise in the manufacturing industry, Dr. William C. Leone, is a renowned executive who most recently served as the vice chairman of MAXXAM, Inc., from 1990 to 1992. He previously held the roles of president and director of its predecessor firm, MCO Holdings, Inc., for one decade. Prior to these appointments, he served on the board of directors and as acting vice chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation for one year, as a business consultant for two years, and as president and director of the Farah Manufacturing Company for one year. After starting his career as an assistant professor of engineering at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1946, he worked for such corporations as Hughes Aircraft, Rheem Electronics, Rheem Manufacturing Company and City Investing Company International, Inc. Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Leone was a visiting professor at the University of Texas, as well as the chairman, chief executive officer and director of the Pacific Lumber Company for four years. Equally passionate about civic involvement, he was formerly a trustee of Carnegie Mellon University and a board member of a Catholic school. After earning a BS from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1944, Dr. Leone enlisted in the United States Navy as a junior grade lieutenant until his honorable discharge in 1946. He then completed an MS through the Carnegie Institute of Technology two years later. Continuing his education with the institute, he received a DSc in 1952. He has since contributed several articles to technical journals and obtained numerous patents. Dr. Leone is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Institute of Aerospace and Aeronautics, and Sigma Xi. He was named the Most Promising Senior Engineer by the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1952. Notably, he was highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in the World. WILLIAM C.
